“Diner?” Xav tried the word, looking to Gerti to see if he’d pronounced it correctly.

“Yes. It’s what we call some places that serve food.”

Inside, Xav felt the vibrations all around him—people talking, footsteps, and something in the background Gerti called music. He was not fond of the constant buzz running through his body, but his Gerti smiled, and he put it out of his mind. He would do anything to make her happy, and if she wished to be in this place—though it must be loud to a being who could hear—then he would be with her.

She ordered him something called Shepherd’s Pie, and he leaned across the table after the other human with a notepad had left. “Is not a shepherd a person who tends livestock?”

Gerti laughed. “Yes. But you’re not eating a person. That’s just what we call a dish made with potatoes and meat and vegetables. It’s perfect when it’s cold outside, like it is now.”

“And this?” He pointed to the mug in front of him. Steam rose from the dark liquid, and it smelled rich.

“Tea. You’re in the best place in the world for tea.” A furrow appeared between her brows, and Xav reached forward to brush it away. “Do you know anything about…Earth? About our…geography? The different nations, continents, people?”

“I know only what I have seen.” Sadness filled him at the memories of his first centuries on this planet. All the times he’d been forced from his vessel and used to cause pain. His eyes started to burn until Gerti’s fingers twined with his.

“You’re safe now,” she said. “And you always will be with me.”

  He was not so certain.

As they ate, Gerti showed him a small, handheld screen she called a phone that displayed pictures to explain this planet’s geography. They were in a country called England, partially surrounded by water. No wonder the air was so damp.

After Gerti handed over some scraps of paper to the woman who had brought them food, they started walking back to her home. Xav needed her. His energy was starting to wane. It would not be long before he would be forced to return to his vessel unless he could ravish her, and from the way she held onto him, the way her fingers cupped his ass, and the scent of her arousal all told him she wanted him just as much as he needed—and wanted—her.

An odd vibration from behind them made Gerti tense, and before he could ask her what was wrong, she shoved him. “Run!” she screamed, turned, and started rushing towards a large, black vehicle with flashing lights on top.

Run? He could not leave her. Xav took a step towards Gerti as she yelled at several males who leapt from the vehicle and pointed weapons at her. No! No one would harm his Gerti.

He dropped the facade of his altered skin color to preserve as much of his strength as he could, then raced to Gerti’s side. “Get behind me,” he ordered as he faced the males. They fanned out in a semi-circle around the two of them, shouting words he could not understand, and before he could choose which of them to decimate first, a jolt hit him in the chest, and his entire body exploded in pain.

His world was reduced to flashes of light within the darkness overtaking his vision. He fell, and out of the corner of his eye, saw Gerti being shoved to the ground. The men clamped metal around her wrists, and tears stained her cheeks.

She called his name as they pulled her away, and another jolt of agony ran through his limbs as he attempted to rise. His strength faded with each involuntary twitch of his seizing muscles, and he let out a moan.

  And then…there was nothing.

The walls of his vessel pressed in on him. The vibrations against the metal hurt, but knowing he could not see or touch Gerti…that was pure agony. He tried to discern his surroundings, but could sense only metal bars. Another cage. Was he back with the terrible males who had used his vessel so horribly? He would not survive another one of their ceremonies. And would he be used to harm Gerti? If he were forced to cause her pain, he would end his own life in a heartbeat.

Xav retreated inwards, focusing all of his energy on his mate, on the love he felt for her. After what seemed like an eternity, a second type of vibration filtered through the intense pain all around him. This one was erratic. It felt like Gerti’s voice, but not. She was…crying. He was sensing her sobs. She was close.

What he would give to be able to hear. Or see. To have enough energy to emerge from his vessel for even a moment. Long enough to touch his mate, to absorb whatever he could from her so he could fight the males who’d taken them.

The vehicle’s vibrations started to slow, and his vessel bounced against the bars. From how his vessel rolled from side to side as the vehicle slowed and turned, the cage was large enough for him in his natural form. If he emerged from his vessel, he would still be trapped. Unless…these males had underestimated him.

He had the strength of ten humans—if the man who’d attacked Gerti at her house were any indication. Perhaps he could defeat the bars. He was so much stronger now than he’d been all those moons ago.

After a jerk, the vehicle stopped completely, and Xav centered himself. He had to escape and save Gerti. He’d failed to protect his brothers. His people. He would not fail his Gerti.

The vibrations of his love’s voice grew stronger, higher pitched, as if she were screaming, and rage consumed him. That is my mate!

Using everything he had left, he pushed against the walls of his vessel, drawing upon the memory of Gerti’s lips, her sweet, pink pussy, and her taste. A sudden surge of arousal flooded him, sending tiny cracks all through his vessel.

  So close.

“Gerti!” Xavi roared, and pinpricks of light permeated the total darkness of his vessel. Her face swam into view, moving farther away from him, and desperation fueled his fury, giving him the strength he needed to break free of his vessel and slam his entire body against the bars.

The cage door cracked off its hinges, and Xav leapt to his feet, bursting from the back of the vehicle towards two men who had Gerti by the arms and were dragging her towards a nondescript gray building with no windows and only one solid metal door.

“Xav! Run!” Gerti pleaded as one of the men released her and turned towards Xav. He registered the weapon in the male’s hands, dodged left, and then sprang for his target, twisting the male’s hands until bones snapped.

He could not see Gerti to understand her next words, his attention focused on the broken male in his grip, but his senses were on full alert, and he turned, throwing the whimpering idiot into another of their kidnappers as he did so.

Both men went down in a tangle of limbs, and Xav raced for Gerti and the last male. He held her against him, one arm around her throat and the other holding a weapon to her side. “We don’t need her. Only you. Come willingly, and I’ll let her live.”

Gerti met his gaze, tears in her eyes. Xav didn’t have long. His strength was waning. “Gerti...” he whispered.

“Go left,” Gerti mouthed. She had not spoken. The male holding her could not have seen her words. She was going to try to help him.

Xav shook his head. It was too risky. If the weapon discharged, he did not know if he could save her.

“Yes. Please.” Her tears tumbled down her cheeks, and she looked to her right—his left—away from the weapon.

“I will do as you ask,” Xav said, his gaze locked on Gerti.

Her arms were bound behind her back, but she managed to elbow the male in the ribs, then fell to her right, and Xav bent his knees, using all the power left in his muscles to push off the ground. Landing on the man with the weapon, he sent all of his rage into his fist and dented the male’s skull with a single punch.

Pain sparked over his entire body as his vessel threatened to consume him, and Xav let out a strangled cry. “Gerti!”

On the ground, her knees bloody and her cheek swollen, she struggled to rise. Xav crawled towards her, and as his vision darkened, he felt her lips on his.

The relief and power surged through him, and he scooped her into his arms, rose, and started to run.

  Epilogue

  Gerti

The muscles in her arms trembled as Xav weakly ripped her binds away, and she thrust herself at her alien, clinging to him for dear life. He’d saved her, torn down the men that had threatened her life and carried her through dense frost-laden trees until he’d found a safe place for them to stop after his breathing became too labored to continue on.

Gerti shivered, the chill of the wind sharp against her exposed arms. Those thugs had torn her jacket and bruised her skin, but it was nothing compared to the fear she felt for her alien. So many things swirled around in Gerti’s head. Those men had wanted to study Xav. To imprison him and run all sorts of experiments and cause him pain. Over and over again. How did they even know about him?

Oh God. Charles. He’d sent the government after them. She tried to focus, to wrack her brain for a reason why—besides Charles being a total and complete git—but the thought of how close she’d come to never seeing Xav again overwhelmed her.

Never kissing his lips, or feeling his warmth against her? It was too much. She didn’t want to think about it. Barely giving him enough time to drop the metal cuffs onto the rocky ground, Gerti pressed her lips against Xav’s, drinking in his taste like a woman dying of thirst. Protectiveness and pure unadulterated lust coursed through her—the sheer strength of her love bringing tears to her eyes. She couldn’t get enough of him. He was hers and she needed to show him, right then and there how much he meant to her.

The small cave they’d found offered little protection against the elements, but the urge to sink down on her alien’s cock was too great. His energy waned, the heroic act of saving her draining what little reserve he had—and as if his very soul spoke to hers, she knew her body was the only thing that could keep him with her. She’d be damned if she ever lost her alien again.

“Delicate one...” The words escaped in a deep rasp as Gerti palmed Xav’s cock and his tongue snaked against hers.

“I know I’m trying, my love.”

Xav shuttered, sinking down to his knees and taking Gerti with him. Rocks and dirt were rough against her skin, but the slight sting of pain only drove her further. Frenzied hands tore at her zipper—Xav had emerged from his vessel fully naked and very, very green—and Xav’s hips slammed against hers in a haphazard fight to free her pussy from the offending material.

“The call to return…I cannot fight it…”

No! He couldn’t leave her. Not now. Not ever!

Xav’s eyes rolled in the back of his head, and what little grip he had on Gerti’s waist slackened as his body grew limp. The zipper finally gave way, but Gerti had already slid down his body, and without a second thought, she wrapped her lips around the glistening tip of his cock.

Xav groaned, his grip on her hair firming, growing more powerful every time she hollowed out her cheeks and took him into the back of her throat. He was salty against her tongue and so velvety smooth, she swore if she could swallow him whole she would.

Fuck, she couldn’t stand it. Every single inch of her begged for connection, to warm herself with the stretch of his hot sex sliding inside her, and when she finally freed her legs of those wretched pants, she roughly shoved him back and impaled herself on his thickness.

Splitting her wide, Xav drove into her, meeting Gerti’s thrusts, matching them with his own. His weak grunts turned deep and virile, and he gripped her ass so hard, the tender skin burned. Gerti relished it, guiding his cock deeper, until it felt like he possessed all of her. Everything. Her nipples hardened, and white hot flashes of electricity zinged along her clit.

The rough pad of Xav’s finger pressed against the opening between her ass cheeks with a delicious pressure. The foreign sensation ratcheted up her passion even more. And when Xav slid his finger inside her tight rosebud and, with his other hand, pinched her clit, she screamed into his mouth and writhed, coming harder than she ever had before.

Something inside her broke free, her unchained spirit mingling with his, and somehow all the brokenness Charles had left in his wake healed. Xav joined her, climaxing inside her as she embraced the passion only he could give her.

She cried, the intensity of her feelings for him magnified by whatever magic passed between them. Xav wiped away her tears, then swiped at his own and embraced her. “Thank you,” Xav whispered against her lips, then rested his sweat drenched forehead against her brow. “I did not think it possible. You have given me a rare gift I will never tarnish.”

“You just saved my life, Xav. I hardly think you should be thanking me.” Gerti smiled and kissed him, still too exhausted to move. Plus, if she were honest with herself, she liked the feel of him filling her, and soft or not, she wasn’t ready to relinquish the sensation yet.

“A bond such as ours is worth more than my life.” Xav dropped his gaze to her lips, then cupped her chin. “I did not think it possible to feel more for you, but I miscalculated. Even centuries of torment could not keep your soul from mine. We are one now, my mate. I no longer need my vessel to survive. Your body—your love—is all the tether I need.”

“Really?” Gerti asked, caught somewhere between shock and amazement. Xav nodded, and as Gerti squealed in delight, his cock hardened inside of her. She moaned slightly, enjoying the sensation of him swelling and stiffening against her tender flesh. Her hips moved slowly, softly hugging his length.

“I feel like I could make love to you forever,” she whispered in a breathy voice, knowing they should continue on but needing to savor the last seconds of their private tryst.

“And I you, but we must go. The men from earlier. They are near, and with our bond comes clarity. My brethren, I can feel them. All of them.”

Gerti’s heart rate spiked and her throat tightened. “I think Charles called them. I heard them talking when we were in the van. You’re something they’ve never seen before, and humans—some humans—believe anything they don’t understand should be studied. And feared. And maybe even destroyed. We won’t be safe here. Or back at my flat. Where will we go?”

“I do not know. But I can tell through my connection with the others, they are in need of help. So many years of isolation and unmet need. Their sorrow flows through me, delicate one. I cannot leave them to wither alone any longer, especially if they are in danger.”

“The government found us once already—”

Xav silenced Gerti’s hurried words with a kiss. “Do not fear. You are safe with me. No matter what may come, I will use the full strength of our bond to protect you.”

“I know,” Gerti whispered against his full lips. And she did. There was no doubt in her mind that her alien would destroy the world for her. Now it was her turn to ease his worry, as he did hers, and fight the whole freaking universe if she had to.

Her gaze lifted to the horizon, the setting sun peeking through the cave’s entrance, and she squared her shoulders.

Cold air greeted her in a whoosh as she separated from him, lifting off Xav’s glorious cock. They’d have to hurry and get out of there and back to civilization if they didn’t want to freeze to death. He raised a brow as she pulled her clothes back on and headed for the opening of the cave.

“Where are we going?” he asked as he strode after her, still completely naked.

“First we get a car, then cash. We’re going to find your people, Xav. I’ve waited to feel like this my entire life and I’ll be damned if I let someone hurt you or the people you care about.”

“But your skin is torn and bruised. Do you not need to heal?”

“I only need you. And maybe something to eat. Other than that, I’ll survive. Hurry now, we need to leave.”

Xav smiled and the brilliance stole her breath. “I do not deserve you. Your strength. Your courage. I am honored to call you my mate.”

“Ditto. Now get that big green ass over here, and let’s go save your family.”

Thank you for reading XAV. This is the first in a series of novellas about the aliens of Pleasuros. Each hero has a uni
que gift—and a very distinctive color—and they’re all very, very possessive of their mates.
